Getting there

Day 23

Kempo day. What an awesome workout today!!! I used 3 pound weights per hand for it and added some footwork in (forward and back) with the punches and blocks. I even ended up throwing Plyo elbows :)

I don't recommend going this intense for beginners, I have years of Martial Arts experience backing up my form and a ton of practice throwing punches with weights. It's not worth hurting yourself, but it does kick it up a few notches.

Day 22

Core Synergistics, what a workout this one is. I sweat and huff & puff more than Plyo... I do like this one :)

Day 22

Core Synergistics, what a workout this one is. I sweat and huff & puff more than Plyo... I do like this one :)

Day 21

First day of recovery week. I woke up late, so I subbed X Stretch for Yoga today.

Day 20

Rest or stretch day. I got a little stretching in, but I have to count this one as a rest day. I don't usually take them, but it was my first day off in a month.

I rewarded myself with a few mojitos last night, which was great, but I went out to eat and planned on getting something healthy... Unfortunately I went to a place that had "Detroit style coneys" on the menu and you just can not have D coneys without chili fries..... There went the diet way off track. I'm going to count that as the 90/10 part of my diet because I've been eating really clean the rest of the time.

Day 19

I'm behind again on my blogging, but Saturday was Day 19, Kempo day. I hit Kempo with some weights, did some push ups and some pull ups..... It was just ne of those days for energy.

Day 18

L&B and Ab Ripper. Crushed it today. I got to test out my new bands and I think I like them a lot.

Day 17

Yoga day again. I'm still struggling with this one and modify (and probably will be for some time). I do feel better afterward though.

Day 16

S&A got crushed today. It was one of those days where I just had the drive, so I smashed through Ab Ripper too :). I may have pushed a little hard and tweaked something in the left arm this time (same thing I did to the right two weeks ago), but we'll see how it feels in the morning. Whatever happens it was a great workout and I'm really happy with it. What a way to start a morning.

Dinner on June 23rd

Whenever I say I'm on a diet people look at me like I'm nuts or laugh. They seem to think I'm talking lettuce and carrots and wood chips. Fortunately for me I LOVE to cook, so nutrition becomes a fun challenge. This was my dinner the other night. Calories :548 Carbs: 31 Fat 36 Protein:20 (239 calories and 27 grams of fat came from the 2 tbsp Olive Oil)... yeah, dieting sucks :)

Day 16

Plyometrics... Not nearly enough sleep again, but I got up and got started. I bonked with about 22 minutes left. I was in the zone the whole time though, so it was still a pretty decent workout.

Day 15

I got home late from work and didn't get enough sleep. Once I started C&B I was fine, but I ran out of time before work and had to finish up after. I love my push up stands, they make it easier and harder all at once :)

I'm starting to feel like I'm getting back to where I was. It'll take some time, but I'm getting some decent results after just 2 weeks. In addition to the visible changes, I'm impressed with the energy, confidence and (comparative) motivation. I "feel" better :)

Day 14

This Sunday I had to work the second job, so I just hit a little stretching and too the "rest" day. I'll try to avoid it in the future just because I love the stretch.

Week 2 is done!!!

Day 13

Well I'm late again on my postings. Day 13 was Saturday. I let myself sleep in until 7:30, so I didn't have time to get the workout in before work. Not to self: it's much harder to get motivated after work!!!

I started off with Ab Ripper since I owed it from Friday and by the time I got through that I had the energy and motivation to hit Kempo.

I decided I'd give turkey a shot. I had some eggs and turkey sausage patties and some turkey Italian sausage. I enjoyed it, so I can broaden the menu a little.

Day 12

Day 12 is done. Well almost, I ran out of time and energy, so I still need to hit Ab Ripper tonight or tomorrow morning. I may try to get it in before Kempo, but we'll see how I feel in a couple hours.

I'm thinking some kind of salmon for dinner since I keep going over on my carbs... We'll see how creative I can get.

Day 11

So Day 11 was actually yesterday, but I didn't get in to post. Yoga is still my weakest point, but it is getting better.

Get your goals right...

A friend told me I must be nuts to get up early every day and spend "an hour" working out. This got me thinking a lot.....

I have some "nice" things (car, clothes, jewelry etc...). I work 50-70 hours a week, sometimes going almost a month with no day off, all to pay my bills and buy things. Cars break down, clothes wear and so I keep working and paying bills so I can buy more things.

When you look at it from this perspective.... Sure, I get up at 5:30am to get in my workouts before work. Sure, I probably devote 15 hours or so a week to nutrition and workouts.

Maybe 15 hours.... that's about 1/4 the time I average to buy things.

OK, so I'm not a huge fan of 5:30.... I'm not a huge fan of 7:00 either, but I'd still have to be up by then so I could to the office and be able to buy things.

An hour or so seems like a lot of time every day for somebody on a busy schedule, but that's an hour devoted to ME. Not the superficial me, not even the vain me. That time is devoted to making every part of me better. Doesn't sound like too bad of an investment to me.

And let's not forget feeling better, having more energy and living longer. You know that little stuff you can't buy.

Now I'm not saying go out and quit your job so you can meet me in WOWY, but if the things you buy in life are worth having that job or career for, aren't you worth 1/4 as much?

Day 10

Shoulders and Armas and Ab Ripper went great today. I skipped the bonus round to avoid injury, but I may rip it out this evening if I'm feeling up to it.

I love P90X!!! Bring It!!!

Day 9

So today was Plyo day.... I wasn't feeling it and switched up to Cardio instead. I got way too little sleep, so I procrastinated this morning. I ran out of time and caught myself doggin it a bit, so I'm hitting Kempo a little harder to make up for it Sat.

Even though C&B went good yesterday, when I got home from work I pumped out another half round anyways. It just seemed like the right thng to do.

Monday, June 15, 2009

Day 8

I started week 2 today!!! C&B went great this morning and Ab Ripper is..... improving :)

I switched over to 4 count push ups and was pulling 10-15 reps through the first half. By the second half I was going from my knees. I love my push up bars!!!

Day 7

Already??? Week one done??? It FLEW by and even being a little sore I feel great!!! The arm is much better today and should be ready in time for C&B (one of my "priority" workouts) tomorrow morning.

Taking 6 months off was bad, but even with the time off I'm coming in to the restart in better shape than I was the first time. I'm being patient (kinda ;) but I'm looking forward to even better results this time around.

It's my first day off that I haven't had to drive 2 hours to see my family in a month and I'm having trouble taking it easy today. I'm going to treat myself to a movie (Angels and Demons) later today.

Day 6

Day 6 is over. Today was Kempo day and it's always been one of my favorites. I'm sad to say I had to take it easy today.

Wednesday I did some damage to my right arm during S&A. I was so pumped to finally be back on the program I went a little overboard. And because it felt a little better Friday I did Pull Ups during L&B. Foolish!!! I managed to injure it more. While I was capable of throwing punches and blocks today, I could definitely feel them, so i kept it to leg and body work to rest the arm.

I still pushed play and worked up a nice sweat though. I'll make up for it next week.

Just 6 days back in and I already have WAY more energy and am feeling better. Exercise and nutrition. Who would have thought that working this hard could give you more energy?

Friday, June 12, 2009

Day 5

Well day 5, Legs & Back is done. I am sore all over, but severely bad in my right arm. I propbably should have taken it easy on pull ups, but I didn't :)

I've never been so happy to be in this much pain. I know it goes away, and it's definitely worth it.

Day 1 again

After some health issues this winter I very foolishly let myself slide in my workouts. As of June 8th 2009 I'm restarting P90X all over again. Today finished Da4 4, Yoga X. This one is the roughest for me to get through and I'm really looking forward to the improvements as they come.
